The Coaster Capital of New England is looking to select six Super Kids from throughout the area to celebrate the all new Superman the Ride Virtual Reality Coaster.

Children must be 12 and under in order to qualify and be willing and able to visit the park on Friday, July 29. All awarded children will be featured on the iconic Springfield morning talk show, Mass Appeal on a live broadcast taking place here at Six Flags New England on Friday, July 29. Winners will also receive admission to the park, lunch and a special meet in greet with the JLA Superhero’s.

Kids will be selected based on a wide variety of criteria including academics, philanthropy, athletics, special talents, unique stories and any other worthy category that makes them a Super Kid.

All six winners will be contacted on Monday, July 18. One entry per child is requested and multiple children within one family can apply.

Blacklight Run™ is a unique night 5K fun run focused less on speed and more on UV Neon Glowing fun with friends and family. Glowing participants come from all different ages, shapes, sizes, and speeds; every participant will get Glowed™ and has the time of their life. Difficult conversations are inevitable in the helping professions. Telling a patient something they don’t want to hear; confronting a colleague who has let you or a patient down; saying “no” to a patient or family member’s request; handling a complaint; giving an unwelcome instruction or suggestion to a patient, colleague or supervisee; and saying “no” to a supervisor’s unreasonable expectations are but a few of the challenging situations that may confront the healthcare professional on a regular basis. Complicating any of these situations further is our own formidable resistance to engaging the other person. We want to protect ourselves from attack, or at least from embarrassment. We may not have a great track record for handling interpersonal conflict we procrastinate because of anxiety, fear, fatigue and a host of other reasons, and we worry about making the situation worse if the conversation were to go terribly wrong, e.eg. retaliation from the other person.

Joseph W. Shannon, PhD, has over forty years clinical, counseling, and training experience, thirty years of consultative and supervisory experience as a private practice psychologist and organizational consultant, and twelve years of administrative and supervisory experience as clinical director of a university counseling and placement agency and an AIDS service organization. He lives and practices in Columbus, Ohio.

The Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Matrix is an easy and effective way to instantly engage people in the process of learning to accept uncomfortable inner experiences, commit to action, and identify what works for valued living. Attendees will learn why the ACT Matrix diagram works so well as an introduction to psychological flexibility across a variety of settings and populations. Dr. Polk will demonstrate how to immediately start using the diagram and how to apply it in individual, couples, and group work.

Kevin Polk, PhD, is a clinical psychologist and worldwide psychological flexibility trainer. He is the principal creator of the ACT Matrix, which is now used throughout the world in psychotherapy, coaching, households, businesses, classrooms, hospitals, and more. Each year, over 5,000 people participate in the walk. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. in Six Flags New England’s main parking lot. We will have a brief kick-off celebration at 10 a.m. before beginning the 1.5-mile walk around the area. The event will also feature family activities, characters, food and live entertainment.
